Join NowTurris Babel (Jan Mimra, 1989)
Turris Babel (or The Tower of Babel) revisits one of the oldest parables of time, told in the Book of Genesis, as countless artists throughout history have done. In his film, Mimra offers a Brueghelian survey of the monumental edifice that is human civilisation (albeit from a Eurocentric perspective), where the seams of different times and cultures pile up like rock sediment in each layer of the great tower. In proper eschatological fashion, Turris Babel also heralds humanity’s impending demise, if, that is, we continue engaging in our own self-destructive habits.
